C ommander Ivano va, the second-i n-command of th e stati on, is s ecretly a late nt telepath who has illicit ly avoided reg istering with th e Psi Corps . The Shado ws, an anc ient and extreme ly powerfu l race who h ave recently e merged from hibernat ion, ar e revealed to be the cau se of a var iety of myste rious and d isturbing ev ents, inc luding the att ack on the Nar n outpost a t the end of 2258. A number of conspi rators, inc luding Londo Mollari and Refa, take control of the Cent auri governmen t by assassin ating their o pponents and placing the lat e emperor&am p;#39;s unstab le nephe w on the t hrone. Their f irst ac t is to start open aggres sion against the Narn. Afte r a full -scale war b reaks out, th e Centauri eventually conquer Nar n in a bruta l attack involving mass drivers , outlawed wea pons of mass destruction. Towards the end of the year, the Clark adm inistra tion begins t o show incre asingly to talitarian ch aracteristics, clamping down on dissent and restrictin g freedom of s peech. The V orlons are rev ealed to be the b asis of le gends about angels o n various wo rlds, includin g Earth, and are the ancient e nemies of the Shado ws.
